One of the characteristics of the Las Vegas Strip skyline that largely differentiates it from the skylines of other major cities across the world is the fact that it is ever-changing, with new landmark resorts changing the imagery as the decades pass. Yes, cities often change, with new skyscrapers added and others taken away, but none seem to change as fast as the Las Vegas Strip.
A few decades ago, names like Tropicana, Stardust and Sands were the icons of the Las Vegas Strip, whereas today, it’s brands like Wynn, Bellagio and Aria. In years to come, others will become an important part of the Strip.
We do already have an inkling as to what some of those major names will be, especially as a handful are under construction right now. Here’s a guide to what could be coming to The Strip in years to come:
Hard Rock Las Vegas
Probably the most exciting project right now, as this ambitious casino resort and hotel will feature a 42-story building in the shape of a giant electric guitar. It is incredibly ambitious, and it should be open sometime in 2027. Vegas may have lost some ground due to the rise of iGaming, with people able to play online slots and table games on their smartphones and their computers, but this is exactly the type of novel construction to bring in the patrons.
Bally’s Las Vegas
There is always a sense of regeneration on the Strip, so this new Bally’s resort is set to be built on the site of the old icon, the Tropicana. The resort is in the planning phase at the moment, but it looks reasonably certain that we will have shovels in the ground reasonably soon. Alas, these mega resorts are not built overnight, so you can expect somewhere around 2030 – perhaps later – as a tentative opening date.
The “Heart-Shaped” Resort
We don’t yet have an official name for this one, but we do have artists’ renditions of what the proposed casino – located across from the current Mandalay Bay – will look like. A giant heart-shaped building could really stand out on the skyline of the Strip. The plans suggest that the heart-shaped building will be made up of LED lights, so expect some luminous views in the same manner as the Sphere.
LVXP
This one is more about what is inside than outside, as the LVXP project seems to be tying in with the impending arrival of an NBA basketball franchise, which could play inside its NBA-level basketball arena. The construction of the site is not yet guaranteed, but the proposals are strong, and it would be surprising if it did not receive the go-ahead at some point.
Dream Las Vegas
Located near the airport on the South Strip, Dream Las Vegas is a warning that not every big Vegas project is a success. Construction on Dream Las Vegas was underway for a while before it was halted in 2023 due to financial problems. The current owner of the site is looking for a buyer, after which it is possible that the project – perhaps with a new theme – could get underway again.
