San Vicente is a small city in Costa Rica that has a lot to offer anyone who pays a visit. The city has a small population of just over 30,000 people but as they say, good things come in small packages. San Vicente is in the San Jose Province and is the capital of the Moravia Canton.

1. Toucan Rescue Ranch
Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal with a sloth? If your answer is yes, then this is definitely the place to visit whilst in San Vicente. But these are not the only animals housed here, the ranch was designed to be a haven and conservation center for a variety of Costa Rica’s most beloved animals.
There are daily educational walks, excellent for learning more about the animals that call the ranch home, as well as options to have an overnight stay or even adopt an animal.
2. Church Saint Francisco
If you are a lover of architecture, then one of the most notable places in San Vicente is the Saint Francisco Church. This beautiful building was built over 200 years ago and is still actively used today.
If you want to visit the local church for spiritual reasons there are a wealth of services and activities throughout the week, including mindfulness sessions on Thursday evenings. This is a catholic church, which is also the main religion of the country.
3. Itarar Eco Park

Costa Rica is home to many nature reserves. While staying in San Vicente it would be a crime not to pay a visit to the Itarar Eco Park, a preserve with a variety of different themed areas all designed to educate and ignite a passion for nature.
Some of the areas that you can expect to see are the meadow, the edible garden, and the medicinal garden. There is also a variety of free workshops to take part in to further expand your knowledge as well as the option to hire out the park for your own event.
4. Reserva Los Coyotes
There is a range of things to do at this wildlife reserve and it comes highly recommended by previous visitors. Besides the gorgeous natural surroundings and great selection of wildlife there are also plenty of other activities.
You could take a bike ride through the rugged terrain or follow one of the many walking trails. There are also great places for refreshments. The reserve makes for an excellent family day out.
5. Parque Diversiones
Another great place for those traveling with a family is this incredible theme park, which is not only fun but also donates its profits to a local children’s hospital, making it a worthwhile cause as well.
There are both water rides and rollercoasters. However, the park is located in San Jose and does require extra travel, around 25 minutes’ drive in the car. But it’s well worth it!
6. Fundacion CIENTEC Academia Nacional De Ciencias
This amazing science museum in San Vicente must be seen to be believed. The museum is perfect for people of all ages and is both educational and exciting.
It is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, so there are plenty of special events taking place and new things to interact with. There are a whole host of games and experiments where you can get involved. This is a great venue for a family afternoon out.
7. Bar Pingo
For many travelers a good night out is the highlight of their trip, and so finding a good bar is important. When in San Vicente, one of the most popular local bars is Bar Pingo; you’re sure to have an excellent evening out.
There’s a great choice of drinks and snacks as well as fun music, so you can dance the night away. This is a traditional bar that serves small appetizers with your drinks.
8. Bar La Portenita Classic
If you are looking for a place to eat and drink that also has excellent entertainment, then this is the place for you. La Portenita Classic has a very popular karaoke night that is loved by locals and tourists alike, and the venue also plays some great live music. The staff are very welcoming and friendly.
