Did you know that Americans consume an astounding 519 million cups of coffee every day? In fact, 66 percent (2/3) of Americans drink coffee every day, according to stats revealed by this year’s National Coffee Data Trends (NCDT) report. That represents a seven percent increase since 2020. And since Starbucks debuted in 1971, coffee is now accessible almost everywhere you go, with a coffee house practically around every corner.
Personally, I cannot start my day without a cup of ‘Joe,’ whether I’m at home, on a road trip, or flying from an airport. And that first sip? Heaven on earth!
With National Coffee Day right around the corner on September 29, personal finance company WalletHub released its report on 2025’s Best Coffee Cities in America. To determine the best local coffee scenes in the U.S., the company compared the 100 largest cities across 12 key indicators of coffee lover-friendliness to determine the final score.
Stand Out Coffee Stats
“Portland, Oregon is the best coffee city, in large part because it has an extremely high number of affordable coffee shops that are rated at least 4.5 stars out of 5,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said. “In addition, nearly 24 percent of the population owns an electric coffee grinder, the 11th-highest percentage. Households in Portland spend an average of roughly $192 per year on coffee, the 20th-most in the country.”
It’s the ideal environment to sit down with a latte and think, “I should hire someone to write my assignment with DoMyEssay so I can enjoy this city guilt-free.” And it has the most donut shops per capita.
Orlando, Florida is the second-best city for coffee lovers, and its coffee-crazy households spend an average of over $154 on the beverage each year. The city also hosts coffee fest events, making it a true hub for caffeine enthusiasts and specialty brews. Orlando has a ton of coffee shops, ranking among the top cities for affordable shops. And it has the most donut shops per capita.
California landed six spots in the top 20 list.
Long Beach comes in as the third-best coffee city in America, boasting a high number of coffee shop options. Residents and visitors search Google for “coffee” more than people in all but six other cities. In addition, Long Beach residents spend an average of over $171 per year on coffee.

“Coffee has become a staple of American culture, helping people stay energized for the workday and bond with friends or dates, but the costs of having one or more cups of Joe daily can add up, especially as prices inflate,” Lupo added. “In the cities that are craziest about coffee, the average household may spend as much as $327 per year on the beverage. At the same time, as much as 33 percent of the population has machines for making coffee at home.”
