From airport terminals to grocery stores, and from outdoor music series to iconic festivals, Austin’s music scene is a vibrant mosaic, presenting me with the delightful challenge of choosing from its multitude of live music venues.
Willie Nelson, the legendary country music icon, singer-songwriter, musician, and guitarist, perfectly captures the essence of Austin’s allure when he said, “There’s a freedom you begin to feel the closer you get to Austin, Texas.”
Here’s a fun fact. Willie Nelson, born in Abbott, TX, made his way to Austin in 1970, leaving Nashville behind in the 1960s. Adding to his connection with the city, Nelson produced and even starred in the pilot of “Austin City Limits”—the PBS live music show that solidified Austin’s position in the global music scene.

The upcoming SXSW Festival takes over Austin from March 8 through 16, 2024. Since its debut in 1987, this festival has played a significant role in shaping Austin into a mecca for music lovers and creative industry insiders, establishing itself as a globally renowned event.
