Arlo Wynwood, a 217-room boutique hotel by independent lifestyle hotel brand Arlo Hotels, is celebrating Black History Month (February) and Women’s History Month (March) by introducing a fully customized suite featuring floor-to-ceiling artwork and beauty products by Afro-Caribbean Latina artist, painter, and author Reyna Noriega. Serving as a cultural hub for residents and visitors, Arlo Wynwood will host a special grand opening celebration and artist talk at the hotel’s third-floor lounge, Higher Ground, on February 22, 2024.
The 445-square-foot suite will feature custom-painted walls with peach, orange, and teal hues and adorned with bold affirmations through vinyls on hanging mirrors, that together, emit feelings of balance and happiness. The room will also include custom art pieces within Reyna’s personal collection, including a 36×36 fine art acrylic on canvas titled Shoulder to Lean On, which depicts community amongst women; a 30×40 print titled: The Blues, representing the joy of women; and a trio that evokes serenity and personal empowerment.
Additionally, Noriega will incorporate custom-designed pillows featuring her signature patterns and waves; woven floral traced throw blankets; crafted ceramic mugs; notepads, and more.
Guests who book this room will also be able to take home limited edition items Reyna has recently worked on in collaboration with major global brands, including a custom razor she designed in partnership with Schick Intuition and Target, custom hair accessories designed in collaboration with Goody and Walmart; and a complimentary bottle of red wine from Clif Family Winery featuring a label designed by Reyna.
As an Afro-Caribbean Latina, 29-year-old Noriega has seen firsthand how damaging it can be to not see positive representation. Understanding the power of introspection, self-reflection, and healing, she centers her work around aspects of people’s journeys – specifically those of women of color – as they seek to be their best, most authentic selves and experience sustainable peace and happiness. Her mission is to fill the world with vibrant, joyful depictions of marginalized communities in hopes of helping people live richer, happier lives.
“I plan to create an ambiance filled with lush, vibrant, and confident subjects that define the tropical essence of Miami, my hometown,” Noriega said. “I want the room to serve as a relaxing oasis for guests, and they shy away from the noise and enter a space of tranquility and joy.”
