As a frequent traveler, I am always on the lookout for fashionable, functional and comfortable luggage. On a recent four-day getaway, I tried out the Airback Go backpack in classic matte black, though it’s also available in three other stylish colors. This bag is designed to simplify packing and make travel easier.
It’s got plenty of thoughtful touches and innovative design, but is it the right fit for women travelers? Here’s my honest review.
Features You’ll Love
This is such a versatile bag. Its patented vacuum compression makes packing easier—it will literally cut the volume of your packing in half, eliminating the need for heaps of bags and the headache of decision-making.
Wet/Dry Separation: The backpack’s wet/dry compartment is a cool bonus feature. Whether it’s a damp swimsuit, active wear after a gym or wet towels, the pocket ensures that such items don’t mix with clothes and electronics, saving you the trouble of leakages or bad smells.
Expandable Capacity: The bag expands to hold around 60 liters—somewhat the size of a 24-inch rolling suitcase—while still meeting carry-on size requirements. Whether shopping at the 11th hour or carrying puffy jackets, the bag does it all while looking smart. It also fits under an airplane seat, adding to its travel-friendly design.
Space-Saving Compression: It’s easy to use and as simple as packing, zipping and compressing. The patented vacuum compression system is an innovative addition that reduces packed items’ volume by up to 50 percent. The extra space it offers will be a godsend for those who overpack or love collecting souvenirs on their travels.
Innovative Organization: The compartments are well thought out, and there is a place for everything. A padded laptop sleeve, a quick-access front pocket, and an expandable zipper provide versatility that ensures you keep your gear properly organized.
Waterproof Exterior: Durable waterproof fabric ensures that you can remain confident in any weather conditions and that your belongings stay dry and protected.
Travel-Ready Security: A TSA lock is an extra layer of security, ideal for airport travel or when your bag is unattended. It put my mind at ease in crowded terminals, and when I left my bag unattended in my hotel room. It also includes USB and USB-C ports for easy device charging, though a separate power bank is required.
Padded Straps for Comfort: The padded shoulder straps are comfortable, even after prolonged usage. While it lacks a hip belt to redistribute the weight, the padded straps make it easier to wear during shorter walks or less intense trips.
What Women Travelers Should Know
Weight Concerns: The bag tends to be heavy when fully packed. Women with issues in their shoulders or backs may consider this factor when going on trips that involve lots of walking or carrying heavy items. I often carried the bag by the side strap instead of on my back.
Compression System Learning Curve. The vacuum system works quite well, but it took me a few tries to master it. The separate vacuum apparatus is a unique addition. Still, it is one more thing to keep track of on your travels. Also, there is an extra charge for the vacuum device. This could be a nuisance for travelers who prefer to travel light or are prone to misplacing smaller items.
Hefty Price Tag. A backpack costing $172 is certainly not cheap. While frequent travel would justify the price due to its valuable features and sturdy construction, budget-minded occasional travelers may find more basic alternatives at a lower price.
For Women Travelers: Parting Words
The AirBack Go is an excellent choice for short getaways or business trips, thanks to its waterproof exterior, TSA lock, ergonomic design and eco-friendly features that reduce baggage and pollution. The padded straps provide comfort, though the bag’s weight when fully packed and the absence of a hip belt may make it less suitable for prolonged carrying.
Additionally, the compression device, while effective, requires some practice and adds an extra item to manage.
Would I Recommend It?
For women willing to invest in stylish, well-organized, and feature-rich luggage, the AirBack Go offers plenty of appeal, including odor protection and anti-theft features. However, the added costs for accessories like the pump and a separate power bank should be considered. If you value compact yet expandable travel gear and don’t mind the price tag, this bag is a reliable and versatile travel companion and would make a lovely gift.
